About the Parisi Hotels York Team

Introduction from the owners, Maria and Sophie:

Our small and fabulous team genuinely care about our guests getting the most from their time in York and are central to the hotel's success.

As you will see they have a wide range of interests so feel free to ask any member of staff for their recommendations on what to see and do while you are with us.

Our managers:

Tom – our second in command –

Tom at the Parisi Hotel York

Tom has a huge amount of hospitality experience from his time launching and managing restaurants, as chef and host at a luxury chalet in the French Alps and from his degree in Hospitality Business Management. During his degree, Tom had quite an adventure, spending a year working at the Old Toad British Pub in Rochester NY. Having grown up in Derby, Tom has now made York his home, having fallen for its rich history and beautiful architecture. Tom is passionate about food and enjoys keeping abreast of the new restaurants in York as well as being something of a craft beer aficionado. He is also a keen snowboarder (when he gets the chance) and is fascinated by origami. In the future Tom wants to possibly one day have his own business.

Mica at the Parisi

Mica is another brilliant allrounder and brings lots of experience from her time working in small hotels, pubs and an Arts Centre. Mica grew up to the north of York in a village near Northallerton but has regularly visited the city throughout her life. She is passionate about history and loves exploring different places to find out the stories behind them, so York is perfect for her! Mica is very creative with a great eye for art and design which she has recently been applying to make up and body art. She also has a keen interest in food and drink and loves getting out into the countryside for long walks with the family dog, a border collie called Shearer. Mica hopes to develop her career in hospitality here, with a longer-term aim to travel the world working on cruise-ships and maybe have her own place one day.

Asako has a wealth of experience from working in luxurious hotels in Tokyo (where she was born) and here in York where she has moved with her English husband. When they were considering moving to the UK from Japan, Yorkshire was at the head of the list of locations thanks to Asako’s childhood love of Frances Hodgson Burnett’s wonderful (Yorkshire-set) book The Secret Garden. Asako enjoys that York is so compact, yet has so much going on and she is passionate about cooking and exploring the York dining scene. Asako loves spending time with our guests and getting to know them so she can help them enjoy their visit to the utmost. Outside of work, Asako enjoys playing with her cat and gardening (Japanese vegetables hopefully coming soon!) and one day wants to design and build her own home.

The Day Team :

Ilka at the Parisi

Ilka was already a skilled professional housekeeper when she joined us and while here has learnt the skills necessary to be a great breakfast chef too (though rumour has it that her husband back in Bulgaria still doesn’t believe it!). Ilka is another history fan and has fallen for the beautiful medieval centre of York, with its hidden snickleways and winding streets. Ilka loves animals and misses her beautiful dog, Holly, who is back at home. Ilka is very creative and (among other things) is an extremely talented card maker, as well as a dab hand at flower-arranging! She hopes to be able to start selling her beautiful handmade cards on the market soon.

Kelly at the Parisi

Kelly has got off to a flying start at the Parisi. She joined us after finishing an MA in Film and Television Production for which she had moved to York from her home country of the Netherlands. Kelly loves looking after guests and helping them make the most of their stay.  She has quickly got to grips with cooking a fab breakfast and tending to the rooms and she relishes the feeling of satisfaction when guests leave the hotel happy. Outside of work, Kelly enjoys dancing and used to teach classes in Yoga. She also loves baking and in her spare time she is currently attempting to teach herself to play the Ukulele! Kelly hopes to become an independent film writer and director one day.

Hannah at the Parisi Hotel York

Hannah is another multi-talented person who recently joined the team with a wealth experience. She has rapidly taken to cheffing, producing brilliant breakfasts, and she uses her great eye for detail in the housekeeping team.

More details to follow soon.

The Night Team :

Julius at the Parisi

Julius came to us having progressed from bar tender/waiter to bar manager. His hometown is Szeged in Hungary, but he has spent many years in the UK in the Lake District and York and has family here. Julius loves TV shows and movies as well as keeping up with new music. He is also sporty, loving a good game of football. He is passionate about the hospitality industry and enjoys that this role gives him a wide experience of many different aspects of a hotel. He hopes to continue building his career and progressing into general management.

The owners

Sophie at the Parisi Hotel York

Sophie got started in hospitality immediately following the completion of her degree in Business Management in Norwich. She moved back to her home town of York and soaked up nearly a decade of experience refurbishing and relaunching a luxurious small hotel in the city centre, renovating listed properties and planning various other hospitality ventures. Having travelled around various corners of the world and stayed in some of the best and some of the worst hotels, she loves finding (and making) special places to stay.

Maria at the Parisi Hotel York

Maria (or Dr Scott) had a childhood dream to one day run a bed and breakfast, but was waylaid at school by an enjoyment of science and ended up completing a PhD in biochemistry before realising she didn’t want to spend the rest of her life in a lab. While trying to work out what would come next she worked alongside Sophie on the big hotel relaunch that she had been working on and discovered a real passion for looking after guests. She went on to hone her skills as a guide and host at a luxurious Argentinian horse-riding ranch and then a manager at a 5-star hotel on an island in Scotland.
