The neighbourhood of the Parisi Hotel York

The neighbourhood

We are lucky to be one of the most centrally located York hotels, pleasantly set in a relatively quiet street opposite a beautiful and ancient church and in amongst York's many attractions yet easily accessible from the train station and by car.

Food and drink

The area is renowned for its burgeoning food and drink scene and there is never a shortage of lovely places to eat and drink – we are always ready to recommend something, depending on what you feel like.

History and culture

The hotel is within the historic central core of York, less than half a mile from York Minster. It is located within the medieval city walls which are England’s most complete. On fine days, a stroll around these makes a lovely way to see the city. Spectacular panoramic views can be had from the top of Clifford's Tower or the tower at York Minster. It is well worth planning to spend a few hours in the Minster. There is lots to see and fascinating tours are included with the price of the ticket. York is blessed with many fascinating museums and galleries such as the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre, the Castle Museum and York Art Gallery to name but a few. The city abounds with interesting historical buildings such as the medieval Merchant Adventurers Hall, Fairfax House, Barley Hall and the National Trust Treasurer’s House.

There are many wonderful tours in the city, depending on your interests and our staff are always happy to recommend one to suit. These range from serious historical tours on foot, bus tours to fun ghost tours.

We are closer than many York hotels to the city's vibrant mix of independent boutiques and high street shops making life easier if you want to drop bags off between rounds of shopping.  The hotel is within a 5 minute stroll from Parliament Street and the Shambles Market which represents the main centre of York and plays host to York's many events and specialist markets throughout the year.

York is becoming a bit of a hotspot for big name music acts and also lesser known independent talent. Both the York Barbican Events Centre and Fibbers are a short walk from The Parisi Hotel and great spots to catch some live music and comedy. For world-class classical music, the National Centre for Early Music just round the corner from the hotel on Walmgate, hosts regular events. The Grand Opera House York and York Theatre Royal are both nearby for locally produced and national touring plays. For rainy days, the York City Screen shows an interesting range of blockbusters and art house films and hosts comedy and music nights in the basement.

We are well placed for parents of students at the University of York and York St John University or anyone visiting for work purposes.
