About the Parisi Hotels York Team

Introduction from the owners, Maria and Sophie:

Our small and fabulous team genuinely care about our guests getting the most from their time in York and are central to the hotel's success.

As you will see they have a wide range of interests so feel free to ask any member of staff for their recommendations on what to see and do while you are with us.

Hotel Manager

Hannah at the Parisi Hotel York

Hannah has progressed through the business, learning everything there is to know here by starting as a Hotel Assistant and being rapidly promoted to being our lovely Hotel Manager. She loves leading and supporting our growing team in looking after our guests and making their trips to York as special as possible. Hannah is a people person, naturally organised and loves getting jobs done and ticking them off her list, so working in hospitality and an independent business suits her down to the ground. Outside of work Hannah keeps busy and active, fitting in yoga, boxing and running along with walking her dog. She loves exploring York and the surrounding countryside, so do ask her for tips about the best places to go. Like everyone here she has developed a real passion for hospitality which permeates through everything she does.

Our managers:

Joanne has joined us having pursued a career in the care sector in Manchester. It is easy to see why moving into the hospitality industry is a logical progression for Joanne as she loves the opportunity to make our guests smile and find out ways she can help them enjoy their stay. Joanne grew up in York and went off to get her degree in English Language and Literature in Northumbria. She loves living in York, in particular for its history, culture and the beautiful architecture. Joanne loves adventure and having caught the travelling bug, planned and navigated her way around India on her own for three and a half months! One of Joanne's obsessions is food and so feels lucky to live in a city with so many wonderful places to eat.

Jenny joined us after working as a primary school teacher specialising in modern foreign languages. She loves the variety of the work at the hotel, meeting different people every day, finding out about their plans for their stays and helping them to have a really amazing and unforgettable time. Jenny has travelled all over South America (enjoying camping in Patagonia and New Year’s Eve in Rio de Janeiro!) and across Europe (discovering La Tomatina – the famous Valencian tomato throwing festival!). She has lived in Spain and France but loves York for its history and vibrancy with such a variety of restaurants and live music. Jenny loves staying active; hiking with her dog, indoor climbing and swimming when she has the chance and is currently discovering the joys growing her own vegetables to cook with. One day Jenny hopes to have her own small holding or farm.

The Day Team :

Megan has joined us while studying Accounting, Business Finance and Management at the University of York. She loves being able to help create amazing memories and experiences for our guests. She originally hales from Norfolk but loves living in York, particularly for its historic aesthetic and all the great places to go for brunch. Megan has a huge variety of interests, loves staying active and enjoys pretty much any sport – she attacks sporting competitions with such vigour that she inevitably falls over at some point, much to the amusement of her friends! She is trained in Eastern dance and in her spare time enjoys karaoke and acting. She thrives under pressure and once sang in front 800 people. She hopes to one day run her own business – maybe a café or small accountancy.

Tyra joined us having completed her Philosophy, Politics and Economics degree at the University of York. She has loads of experience in hospitality having previously worked in another small boutique hotel in Cheltenham and a range of restaurants around her studies. She loves getting to know our guests at the hotel and helping them enjoy their time in York to the maximum. Being a keen photographer and videographer, she loves York’s photogenic beauty and history taking any opportunity she can to get out with her camera. In the future, Tyra hopes to travel some more and one day create a documentary about issues that are important to her.

The Night Team :

Nathan has joined us from St. Catharines in Ontario, Canada and is loving learning everything there is to know about the boutique hotel industry with us. He has travelled to many new places and enjoys weaving his way into local life. He loves York for its historical beauty and the romantic stories of its dramatic past. He's always looking for ways to help our guests to make the most of their stay and is hoping to develop a longterm career in the hospitality industry. He is a fan of IPA and is enjoying discovering the many ales of York and England. One of Nathan's ambitions is to write a book one day.

The owners

Sophie at the Parisi Hotel York

Sophie got started in hospitality straight away following the completion of her degree in Business Management at UEA in Norwich. She moved back to her home town of York and soaked up nearly a decade of experience refurbishing and relaunching a luxurious small hotel in the city centre, renovating listed properties and planning various other hospitality ventures. Having travelled around various corners of the world and stayed in some of the best and some of the worst hotels, she loves finding (and creating) special places to stay.

Maria at the Parisi Hotel York

Maria (or Dr Scott) had a childhood dream to one day run a bed and breakfast, but was waylaid at school by an enjoyment of science and ended up completing a PhD in biochemistry before realising she didn’t want to spend the rest of her life in a lab. While trying to work out what would come next she worked alongside Sophie on the big hotel relaunch that she had been working on and discovered a real passion for looking after guests. She went on to hone her skills as a guide and host at a luxurious Argentinian horse-riding ranch and then a manager at a 5-star hotel on an island in Scotland.
